Pacific Chorale Guild • Premiere Chapter

Pacific Chorale Guild–Premiere Chapter consists of individuals and families with two overlapping aims: Tangible support of the Pacific Chorale and its programs, and developing and maintaining social connections among people who share those goals. Members typically include Chorale supporters, subscribers, and audience members, current and alumni singers in the Chorale, their families and friends.

The Guild is one place where current singers, past singers, and non-singing music aficionados can work together on common projects, broaden their cultural exposures, and cultivate friendships at the same time.

The Guild was founded in 1990 as an avenue for the full range of Pacific Chorale supporters to collaborate and socialize in an atmosphere which is fiscally productive and socially and musically fulfilling. Above all, the theme is that fun and funding are not mutually exclusive.

The Pacific Chorale Guild creates activities for members to express both personal affinity and tangible support for the Pacific Chorale. These entail both social and cultural events and innovative projects for raising funds and in-kind support.

Among its notable projects have been:
  • Underwriting production of the popular Christmas CD Sing Noël
  • Creating and auctioning the Harmony Quilt, a remarkable and lucrative fundraising project
  • Sponsoring radio broadcasts of Pacific Chorale concerts
  • Presenting an impressive and informative series of "Conversations," building social events around intimate discussions with well-known personalities in the music world. Luminaries have included:

    John Alexander
    Martin Bernheimer
    Dean Corey
    Carver Cossey
    Jo Ann Falletta
    Bonnie Grice
    Robert Istad
    Morten Lauridsen
    Jerry Mandel
    Paul Salamunovich
    Carl St.Clair
    Patrick Stoyanovich, www.metrocitymusic.com
    Jim Svejda
    Frank Ticheli
    Eric Whitacre

  • Organizing excursions to notable productions in Los Angeles, such as The Lion King, The Producers, and the May 2005 Daphnis and Chloe Los Angeles Philharmonic collaboration at Disney Hall.
  • Organizing a Pacific Chorale Thirty-fifth Anniversary in 2003, raising $25,000 and bringing together generations of past and current singers and other musical collaborators from far afield
  • Maintaining a pool of volunteers to help with Chorale staff and Guild administrative tasks.

BECAUSE Pacific Chorale

  • is an institution of critical importance to the cultural life of southern California, and indeed to the state of choral music in the United States
  • has served now or in the past as a vital part of the individual musical development of many singers, and often their career paths
  • provides each singer and supporter with a specific, personal place in the overall cultural community
  • acts as an extended family on a number of dimensions: professionally, artistically, and personally
  • provides an additional window on the wider musical and cultural world and its key personalities
  • is and always has been full of remarkable and interesting people who deserve to know each other on dimensions beyond purely musical rehearsal and performance
