Marcus Omari
MusicianAs founder of Poetic Reform Party, Marcus Omari leads a team of dedicated artists to organize, host, perform, and instruct various literary events in Southern California. Among Omari’s most honored achievements is the facilitation of on-demand poetry workshops for Orange County half-way housing for women, providing after school poetry programming for Orange County group home & foster youth, and writing workshops for homeless transition adults in Los Angeles. Marcus has also developed and taught after school creative writing programs for the San Diego Unified School District, Santa Ana Unified School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, and Anaheim Unified School District.
A critically acclaimed purveyor of verse and six-time National Speech and Debate Award winner, Marcus Omari has been a featured poet on Lexus presents VERSES & FLOW on TV One, spit verse on MTV, authored several chapbooks (14th Street Local; South of Andromeda), publishing another (FARAJI , A. Ghane) and served as co-editor for the poetic manuscript Speak Child (A. Duncan). Omari is currently working on his third & final chapbook in his pre-manuscript series.
Marcus Omari is a student of the poetic literature (and activism) of Nikki Giovanni, Walter Benton, June Jordan, Khalil Gibran & Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi. An avid writer emerging from the Southern California literary scene as a founding member of the San Diego Slam Poetry Team.
