Katy Compton

Katy Compton has a lush, richly timbred lyric soprano voice, which remains agile and clear throughout her range. Her favorite opera roles include the Governess in The Turn of the Screw with Chicago Fringe Opera, Nannetta in Falstaff with /kor/ productions, Pamina in The Magic Flute with American Chamber Opera, The Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel with Main Street Opera, and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Florida State Opera. Chicago Classical Review praised Katy’s “clear and attractive soprano” for her performance as Leonora in Maskarade with VOX 3 Collective.

Katy has sung with Pacific Chorale, the LA Opera Chorus and the LA Master Chorale, in addition to frequent engagements with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and Grant Park Chorus. She sang in the chorus with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in performances of Tannhäuser and Les Troyens.

She’s a member of CHAI Collaborative Ensemble, and performed the premiere of Eric Malmquist's Madrigals for soprano, flute, viola, and piano. Her concert highlights include soprano solos in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Tallahassee Community Chorus, and a performance of the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria with Music by the Lake. She took second place in the Suncoast Florida Opera Guild Competition, and was a Semi-Finalist in the Classical Singer Competition.

Katy grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, where she fostered her love of singing in church and performing in musicals with her local community theatre. She taught elementary music after college, and earned a Master’s degree in Voice Performance at Florida State University. She has continued to work with children, including as a teaching artist with Chicago Opera Playhouse in The Magic Flute: Classroom Adventures, and as a performer with Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Opera in the Neighborhoods, where she played Dortchen Wild in The Brothers Grimm.

Katy lives in Hollywood with her best audience: her husband and her cat.
