Chichester Psalms
Program
Mass for the Endangered – Sarah Kirkland Snider
Psalm 148 – Gustav Holst
Listen to the Silence – Frank Ticheli World Premiere
Chichester Psalms –Leonard Bernstein
With emotional prayers, mesmerizing harmonies, and words of hope, all three composers set religious texts to convey their message and inspire the listener to action. Sarah Kirkland Snider’s glorious and riveting Mass for the Endangered opens the program with the chamber choir, and is inspired by the traditional Catholic Mass but focusing on our delicate relationships to the wildlife of our planet. The second half opens with Holst’s crystalline Psalm 148 and leads into Bernstein’s spirited and dynamic Chichester Psalms.
We are thrilled to unveil a captivating addition to our upcoming concert on June 1st, Listen to the Silence by renowned composer Frank Ticheli! Find our more about our friendship and collaboration with Frank, and this commission here.
