VOICES OF LIGHT / The Passion of Joan of Arc Voices of Light is a stunning evening of music and film. Praised as “lush,” “brilliantly effective,” and “moving” by the New York Times, Washington Post and Chicago Sun Times, the music has attracted a huge audience on its own.
Voices of Light merges the legendary silent film masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc, widely considered to be one of the greatest films ever made, with a live performance of a ravishing score by award-winning composer Richard Einhorn. Einhorn’s compositions have been described as “hauntingly beautiful” and “sensational.” An incredibly moving composition for solo voices, chorus and orchestra, Voices of Light has been hailed as “a triumph” (Los Angeles Times) and “an overwhelming experience” (Chicago Tribune).
The 1928 silent Film The Passion of Joan of Arc chronicles Joan of Arc’s trial in the hours leading up to her execution. Pioneering director Carl Theodor Dreyer employed an array of techniques—expressionistic lighting, interconnected sets, painfully intimate close-ups—to immerse viewers in the experience along with Joan, portrayed in a legendary performance by Renée Falconetti.
