Experience the warmth of Eleanor Daley’s Love Came Down at Christmas live with Pacific Chorale's Carols by Candlelight concert. A heartwarming holiday celebration awaits!
The holiday season invites us to reflect on love, joy, and togetherness, and what better way to embrace that spirit than through music? Pacific Chorale’s Carols by Candlelight concerts will feature a beautiful choral piece by contemporary Canadian composer Eleanor Daley, titled Love Came Down at Christmas.
Born and raised in Parry Sound, Ontario, Daley is known for her skillful blend of music and text, infusing her compositions with warmth and depth. Her career as an organist and choral director, as well as her extensive background in both piano and organ, enriches her work with a rare musicality. Daley’s compositions, which span over a hundred published pieces, are celebrated worldwide and have been performed across North America, Europe, and beyond.
Love Came Down at Christmas was originally composed in 2004 for Toronto’s Victoria Scholars and is a stunning a cappella setting of Christina Rossetti’s poignant 1885 poem. In this piece, Daley’s background as an organist shines, with tenor and bass voices blending like a gentle organ, creating a calming, soulful atmosphere that resonates with the warmth of the holiday spirit. The familiar, timeless words of Rossetti—"Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, love divine"—echo the universal message of love that remains central to the season. The choir’s gentle ‘Alleluia’ refrains weave in subtle harmony, pulling the listener back to the piece’s comforting tonal center, a nod to Daley’s skill in balancing innovation with tradition.
This year, join Pacific Chorale as we celebrate the season with Eleanor Daley’s Love Came Down at Christmas alongside other choral masterpieces in Carols by Candlelight. Experience an evening of peaceful reflection, glorious harmony, and the gentle illumination of candlelight as we welcome the season of love and light.
